McCallum Rock Drilling (MRD) is a rock drilling and blasting contractor based out of Chehalis, WA, that has been in business since 1988. MRD operates in commercial quarries, timberlands and construction sites throughout the Western US.

MRD is in search of a full-time GIS Survey Technician to operate out of our main headquarters in Chehalis, WA. This is an entry level position for someone who has an interest in starting their career in GIS, surveying, UAV, mapping, and 3-D modeling. The ideal applicant must have a clean driving record and clean criminal background. Prior to starting, a successful completion of a pre-employment drug test will be required. This position will be 90% travel throughout the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, and Idaho) so all applicants must be willing and flexible with the travel. 

What to Expect!

The GIS Survey Technician will be aiding in blast design and layout, UAV mapping, delivering drawing packages to clients, volume measurements, topography mapping, and aerial photos. The majority of the work will be throughout Washington and Oregon in commercial quarry operations and construction sites. 

Minimum responsibilities include: 

  • Follows all MRD policies and procedures 
  • Visit sites to record survey measurements and other descriptive data 
  • Enter data from surveying instruments into computers, both in the field and office 
  • Edit and process images that have been collected in the field 
  • Aerial photogrammetry of job sites and commercial quarries
  • Assist in pre and post blast data collection 
  • Must be able to work independently 
  • Currently possesses FAA Part 107 pilots license (will obtain license within 90 days of hire)
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions 

Desired skills and qualifications include: 

  • Civil engineering or computer science experience preferred 
  • Previous work experience in GIS or surveying preferred 
  • Basic computer skills 
  • Ability to travel when required 
  • Ability to stay out of town on occasion 
  • Excellent communication skills
